Happy Friday to all of my readers! It has been over a week since I left for Vacation and I already want to go back. I miss sitting on the beach, walking to the bakery and smelling the salty air. If any of my readers have been to Block Island comment below because I would love to know! It is such a beautiful place to visit. We have been going there since I was little kid and I never grow tired of it.
For todays post I wanted to share what we did on Block Island and the photos I took. I hope you enjoy the post!
Day 1: we arrived at Block island around 10:30 a.m and from there we walked around. There are so many adorable shops in their town. We went the weekend of the Taste of Block island festival, this gave us discounts at the stores and the restaurants. Later on in the day we went to Mansion Beach. It was pretty cold their so I opted for jeans and a sweater which is a funny thing to wear to the beach. We usually vacation at Block Island during the summer but my dad said the weather there is beautiful in the Fall so we went then. The beach and the whole island was not crowded because it was Fall which was very nice. Most of the beaches only had a few people on them so it was nice to be able to walk around and not worry about bumping into someone.
We ate at the Oar this night. The Oar has the best sushi I have ever eaten. It’s so delicious, so affordable, and the view when eating is beautiful.
Day 2: we went back to mansion beach and this was the day I decided to walk more than half of the island. The island is about 12 miles long so I did about 8 miles on the beach. WHAT a workout! Walking in sand in much harder than walking on concrete!
Mansion beach is such a beautiful place to go to the beach. When you enter if you walk right you can walk straight into town. Granted it is a 5 miles walk but it’s very beautiful. If you walk left you will walk into Clay head. This is probably the most rocky and dangerous part of the beach. I walked about half way but then had to turn around because the whole beach is covered in rocks. You also cannot swim in this part but it’s a nice walk if you wear the right shoes.
That night we ate at The national hotel. The view when you are eating is of the whole Ocean. It is so cool to see the ferry boats come in and load up.
Day 3: Our last night. 🙁 The last day on block island was the best, minus the Dinner food. There is this adorable coffee shop that serves vegan, gluten free, dairy free options and this was the place I ate breakfast every morning. They made the best gluten free and dairy free bannana bread ever, and their smoothies were incredible! The place is called “ Persefonies”.
Before we went to the Bluffs we took a walk to the light House. I forget if it was the North or South one. The walk was so windy that we had to wear our windbreakers and keep our heads down. I lost my hat on more than one occasion. The light house has tours going through it which is very cool because you can go all the way to the top and look out over the Ocean.
On the way back from the light house we decided to walk to the tip of Block Island! And it was there we saw Seals! I have only ever seen seals in the aquarium so this was such a surprise.
Here is a picture.
When we left the Light House we went to the Bluffs. It’s over 109 stairs down but it’s 100% worth it. Although the walk up the stairs at the end of the long day was a killer and I could only do half of them then stop for a break it was worth it. Even as you are walking up the stairs you can stop and look around the beach. At the top there are different paths you can take for different look out points. Some overlook the cliffs more than others. (Great picture spot) .
That night we ate at Mohegan Cafe. For us it was not a good meal, I am just sharing my opinion. It was overpriced, the food was not that good, the service was good but overall not worth it. I had Pai Thai and the sauce was very heavy and not what i expected. My dad had seafood which was also in a very heavy sauce and did not taste that great. We were both very full and uncomfortable after that meal.
(The last row of pictures are of the Bluffs. )
