Travel Diary: Hiking in the Adirondacks

Last week I had the opportunity to go on vacation to the Adirondacks. It was such a fun trip and we took so many adventures so I just had to share it with you guys.

If you are an outdoors person then this is definitely a trip you want to take.

I have always loved the outdoors and was so lucky to have to opportunity to travel to the Adirondacks with my dad for our Summer vacation. The scenery was so beautiful and there is a certain solitude when hiking far into the woods. All you hear is nature and you feel a certain peace. Whether you decide to camp out or just take day trips you will most definitely have a wonderful time.

Now without further adou! Let’s see what I was up to this past week. ๐Ÿ™‚

This was the view from our hotel room. Such a beautiful scene to wake up to and eat breakfast in front of.

After about 6 hours of hiking (a mixture of actual advanced rock climbing and moderate foot trails) we finally reached the summit of Mount Colden; one of the toughest mountains to climb in the Adirondacks. But the beautiful view did not last for long because about 5 minutes after this picture was taken we were soaking wet. A terrible thunderstorm came over us as we were on the face of the mountain. Navigating was tricky but we eventually picked up the trail again and could finally get off the mountain!

On our journey up to Mount Colden we stopped at look out points along the trail to take some beautiful pictures. Picture spot: Marcy dam

A different perspective from the same spot, Marcy Dam. The mountain in the background is Mount Colden and you can clearly see the rock slabs that we navigated our way up. Most people come in from the back side which is a much easy climb but since this was our first “real” hike there were some errors made. But, if you are looking for an exhilarating journey then going up the front is a long but beautiful climb.

Picture spot: Avalanche lake. Of course we had to take a pit stop and enjoy our protein bars to help fuel us up. The trail we took brings you right down to the water then continues along it. You go up and down ladders and under rocks and is very similar to an outdoors adventure park. The trail continues for about 1 1/2 miles – 2 miles then splits off and goes into the woods. You walk between two rock walls and can see where the avalanche came through and created the valley.

Another view from the top of Mount Colden. We still had another 100 feet to climb before we reached the summit where you feel as if you are on top of the world. ๐Ÿ™‚

To end our trip we took a drive up to White Face Mountain which has an elevation of 4,865. Our legs were tired from the day before so this time we were glad to be able to take the car. This picture was taken about 2 miles from the top.

To drive to the top of White Face you have to venture up a 5-6 mile road which is cut into the side of the mountain. It twists and turns and at times you are feet away from the edge.ย On top of the Mountain there is a gift shop and a place to grab some food.

Overall this trip was one for the books. I had such a blast and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves to hike, loves adventure, loves the outdoors and is looking for a peaceful setting.
