Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker movie review

**** This post contains spoilers ****

I decided to try something new today and see how the response is. I don’t go to the movies often, maybe once a year twice if I’m lucky. I am just very particular about what I want to see and unless I see a preview that has my jaw dropping or leaves me feeling “I need to see this” I am more of a home movie gal. But, when it comes to Star Wars you will always find me front row with my popcorn at every release. I have been a mega-fan/nerd of the series since the beginning with the Phantom Menace. I am one of those people who knows all the filming locations, names of characters, names of ships… you get it. πŸ™‚

When I first heard that the industry was coming out with a whole new Star Wars series to follow Return of the Jedi, I was ecstatic. I had such high hopes as did most Star Wars fans and after the first movie, The Force Awakens although my trust that they would do justice to the originals was a tad shaken I still held on hope that they would redeem themselves on the next 2. But sadly they did not. I was very disappointed with how the films following Return of the Jedi were done and even boycotted seeing Solo: A Star Wars story because I just wasn’t into the new films.

My love towards the originals was still as vibrant as ever but my feelings towards the new spin, just like many fans, was shaken. So, when I heard they were releasing the 4th and final (for now?) Star Wars movie to end the saga I went in with low expectations and came out with a large smile on my face.

In my opinion Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was corny at the core but captivated many, me included, with the return of Chancellor Palpatine, Princess Leia, Luke, Han Solo, Lando, Ewoks, Jawas, Lukes home growing up and so many other special scenes that only true Star Wars fans would know where they came from. There were references to scenes from all of the movies to tie it into a perfect bow to complete the saga. Although the other 3 movies were not up to par with how I wanted them to be this last movie is one I would highly recommend seeing. I left the theater jumping around singing the Star Wars theme song and wanting to see it for a second time. This is the one movie out of the newest 3 that I would 100% see again or even buy the DVD for.

This movie had a number of jaw-dropping scenes especially when we found out Rey was the granddaughter of Palpatine! I mean who saw that coming! And although they never addressed who his wife was (there are rumors but nothing definite), it’s nice because it does leave a little open to the imagination. Possibly Sly Moore?Β

There were some scenes which I was a bit bummed about like, the death of Ben (Kylo Ren) at the end. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one hoping for Rey and Ben to get together as well as Fin and Jannah. I was secretly hoping that Rey and Ben would end up together and walk off into the sunset with their light sabers in hand and the holograms of Luke, Leia, Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Anakin in the background. But sadly all hope was lost for that ending when Ben’s body disappeared (like the way Jedi do), but it was necessary because he was tainted and for the new race of Jedi to be born they needed to cleanse any trace of the Sith and dark side. Also, I was equally hoping that in the end, like in Return of the Jedi they would bring the holograms of Yoda, Obi-Wan, Anakin alongside Luke and Leia who they did show.Β Just as another memorabilia of the original series.

The death of Chancellor Palpatine and the way Rey did it was also really great because what the other movies were lacking was the true meaning of the force, something this movie did a great job of bringing back. Especially in the scene where Rey and Kylo were fighting on the collapsed death star in the water. You get a sense of the force and how there was good in Kylo which Leia (his mom) brought out by sacrificing the last of her strength.

Okay, so I don’t want to say much more because if you haven’t seen the movie yet then I want you to still be surprised, and I do hope you see it. I highly recommenced seeing this movie if you’re a fan of Star Wars. I promise you that although there are some corny scenes the heart of the original saga lies in it and they do a great job of bringing it out. They tied everything in perfectly to give fans what they wanted, a story that tells of the good and evil and how in the face of all the fighting to never lose hope and keep standing strong because in the end good prevails.

Have you seen the new movie? If yes then comment below your thoughts.

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today. I wanted to try something new because I love Star Wars and wanted to share my honest opinion. I’m not sure if I will continue with these types of posts because as I said in the beginning, I don’t go to the movies often. But if you did enjoy it and would like more book review posts, movie reviews (when I do go), food item reviews, restaurant reviews, and others, then leave a comment below.
